Hall of Fame: 40k – Knight Titan
Hello dear reader! Robin here with my second vote for the Warbastards’ Hall of Fame series, this time I’m throwing my vote into the 40k pot. I feel I may need to provide a caveat before I give you my selection as this may come across as totally fan-boyish of me but believe me when I tell you that I am not in any way being ‘trendy’ with my choice, even though it is one of the newer models the evil overlords at GW have released.
My selection is the Imperial Knight. Yes, yes, like I said, it does appear to be a bit of a new mini to be voted into the hall of fame and certainly isn’t what anyone would call a ‘classic’ but I’ve been at this hobby for quite some years and I’ve been waiting for this to be released since I first saw the original Epic Knights back in the day. Over the years I’ve contemplated scratch building one or picking up one of the various large scale mech minis that exist with a view to convert it and use it as a ‘counts as’, however nothing ever captured the feel of the original artwork and epic-scale Knights that I loved so much. So I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when rumours started to surface about a large scale Imperial Walker on the horizon. That time was somewhat of an emotional roller-coaster for me as several releases came and went, each rumour mill promising my long awaited Knight Titans as Codex option. The Tau had the Riptide, then the Eldar got the Wraithknight, surely, surely it must be in the Marine codex, the internet was abuzz with whispers like honey in my ears, ‘the Knights are definitely in the new Dex!!!’ were they? Were they fuck!! My hopes turned to the new Guard codex, I wanted to believe that they would be there, I wanted it so much, I ignored my natural cynicism and hopped like a mooning child, but alas my hopes were to be dashed again. Crushed.
But then, and I’m sure you remember this yourself dear reader, the image surfaced on the internet. The image which forced my hobby boner to full extension.
That’s a Knight Titan!!! My dreams had been realised and I knew it was only a matter of time before I could get my dirty mitts on a childhood fantasy made manifest. The Knight Titans are coming, THE KNIGHT TITANS ARE COMING!!! OH MY GOD I’M COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I said I was excited about the imminent release of the Knight Titan.
As I had already set the criteria for my first choice for the Hall of Fame as a model that I owned, had not converted, and had painted, I applied these principals to my second choice too. Owning and not converting the Knight Titan were easy, I got mine as soon as it was out, and I put him together without messing with his pose beyond the normal articulation of the kit. However painting my beauty has taken me somewhat of a long time, with real life intruding, and the vagaries of the Hobby Magpie squawking in my ear and making me do things like painting a BFG fleet and start a 30k Iron Warriors army, it has taken me far longer than I had planned to finish my Knight Titan. But finish him I have, and here he is.
